James L. Stewart, Oct 17, 1943 - Nov 10, 2016
Trappers and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart and sadness that I pass on the news that one of our long time directors, Jim Stewart, passed away last week while on the trap line. This is big shock and a terrible loss for our trapping community.
During his time as a Director, Jim was chairman of Rendezvous, worked at gun shows and county field days, participated on the banquet fundraising committee, and was a trapper education teacher.
Services will be held this Saturday, November 19th, at the First Congregation Church located at 77 Main Street, Springfield, VT at 12 pm. Those who plan to attend, we ask that you wear a green VTA hat like many of us saw Jim wearing much of the time.
Those of you who would like to send a card can send one to the following address:
8 Maple Street
North Springfield, VT 05150
I know Jim would want us to continue trapping and appreciating the outdoors as much as he did. He was a trapper, a veteran, and more importantly, Jim was a great human being and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Held twice annually, once in early December, and once in early to mid March. Please refer to the calendar section of the Trappers Post or go here for more information.

Hello Vermont Trappers and Supporters,
Just in case you have been living in a cave somewhere, we are going to be in a fight for our trapping rights this year. A slick new anti-group called Protect Our Wildlife, with funding from out of state groups, has been putting out ads on TV and Radio as well as meeting with legislators to try to end trapping.... Message from Conservation Director Mike Covey
As I'm sure many of you are aware, we are facing a new threat as outdoorsmen in the state of Vermont. Protect Our Wildlife is an offshoot of Green Mountain Animal Defenders, the HSUS front group in Vermont. They started this new organization specifically to field a lobbyist in Montpelier to attack outdoorsmen. Their initial targets were trappers, houndsmen, and a total ban on lead ammunition for any type of hunting (no lead shot or bullets for any game)..... Read More.
